The Port Handling division of the EIE Group, has handed over a Konecranes 4531 TCE5 Reach Stacker to APM Terminals Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd, within exactly two months of the contract being placed. The global APM Terminals group operates one of the world’s most comprehensive port and integrated inland service networks, covering 76 ports and over 100 inland services locations.

The Konecranes Reach Stacker was ordered on a full rental for 60 months, including maintenance, basis for deployment at the APM terminal in Durban in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province.

In addition to its high performance and reliability, the reach stacker was selected as it was possible for a fire suppression system to be kitted to the unit, in full compliance with APM Terminals’ stringent safety requirements.  The Konecranes fire alarm and suppression system can be activated manually or automatically when the reach stacker is both in and out of use.

The Konecranes 4531 TC5 Reach Stacker offers a powerful engine, strong frame and mast, coupled with load sensing hydraulics. This provides the ability to lift up to 45 tonnes on the first row, and up to 31 tons on the second row.

These reach stackers have one of the best cabins in the market with regard to space and visibility and contain smart innovative features which increase productivity and safety while driving down running costs. For example, the Konecranes Work Zone option allows speed restrictions and height alerts to drivers, while fleet monitoring, using the patented Konecranes TRUCONNECT fleet management system, is possible on both a smartphone and laptop. This allows operators to track the usage, efficiency and productivity of their machines through a remote connection.

In addition to Konecranes’ online fuel management system, other fuel saving features include the smart load-sensing hydraulics that sense the load and adapt the lifting power to the weight of the load. The truck provides maximum power only when really needed, so it consumes less fuel while reducing emissions and noise.

The heavy-duty box-type chassis is the strongest on the market, while the excellent stability is provided by a wide, strong drive axle and long wheelbase for safe lifting of heavy loads.

“APM Terminals and EIE Group have enjoyed a special and long-term relationship, one which we hope will continue to grow and flourish,” says Gary Neubert, EIE Group CEO. “Our back-up service and our ability to speedily supply equipment were certainly important in winning us this contract in a very competitive environment, and we intend to continue to focus on outstanding client service, in line with our commitment to building partnerships for life.”

The Port Handling division markets a comprehensive range of Konecranes Reach Stackers, Container Handlers and Forklifts. A best-in-class brand, Konecranes machines have been on the market for over 60 years, with the company having invested significantly in research and development to offer new technologies that improve performance and safety. Konecranes also ensures that its products are fully compliant with emissions regulations.
